Niko Luoma is among the leading proponents of Helsinki School. His abstract photographs from the past decade capture light and the intense energy it radiates. He analytically probes the photographic process using analog techniques and double exposures, with random elements forming a repetitive continuum in geometrical symmetry. His key themes are space, the structure of space, scale and proportion, and time. His geometrical photographs retrace abstract art’s journey from the representational to the non-representational.

Luoma’s photographs are found in notable Finnish public collections including the Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma, Helsinki Art Museum, and EMMA - Espoo Museum of Modern Art as well as numerous private collections abroad.
