Emanuel Seitz
October 25–November 24, 2019
Opening in the presence of the artist, October 24, at 5–7pm

In his first exhibition in Finland, the German artist Emanuel Seitz (b. 1973) provides a glimpse into the birth of an exhibition in the form of a personal diary. The 33 works he painted especially for this show are displayed side by side in chronological order, evoking a timeline and accentuating how Seitz’s brushwork gradually evolves and changes. The passage of time leaves its imprint on the canvas, just as time leaves a mark on all human lives. One day follows another, but the only thing that is constant is change itself.

The exhibition brings Seitz back to a more intimate and non-figurative painting. Leaving his works untitled, Seitz underscores the authenticity of the experience, not wanting to distract the viewer from the essentials. He gives focal emphasis to the basic elements of painting, to form and composition. Although many of his paintings are simple and monochromatic in their vocabulary, they are not Color Field paintings in his opinion. He sees them more as studies of the synergy between form and spatiality. The artist mixes his own pigments to broaden the spectrum of hues at his disposal for bringing out the essence of form with maximal intensity.

Emanuel Seitz studied under Günther Förg at the Munich Academy of Fine Arts from 1996 to 2002. He has exhibited in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Germany and elsewhere throughout Europe. He is represented in major collections including the Lenbachhaus and the Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich. Seitz is based in Munich and Berlin.
