Portrait of Adams Saks.

Born in Copenhagen, Denmark 1974 | Lives and works in Berlin, Germany

Adam Saks belongs to the early-2000s generation of painters who pull freely from various artistic sources. He is known for picking his subject matter from different periods of art history and visual culture, thereby deriving fascinating parallels and meaning: the themes rise from art history and previous visual art and from pop art and outsider art. His breakthrough came with his early-millennium watercolor and paintings’ tattoo motifs, with human figures and torsos situated around architectural fragments and landscape scenes. The paintings contain an underlying sense of mortality and transience, conveyed by subdued earthy tones punctuated by occasional bursts of violet, orange and pink hues, applied with blithe brush strokes alongside linocut fragments. This captivating visual rhythm is achieved by alternating two and three-dimensional spatial impressions. The compositions are spacious and alive, allowing the eye to roam freely.

Adam Saks’ work has been showcased at numerous museum exhibitions in Europe, including AROS - Arhus Kunstmuseum in Denmark, the Nordiska Akvarell Museet in Sweden, and Lieu d'Art Contemporain in France. He was nominated for the Queen Sonja Nordic Art Award in 2014.

Galerie Forsblom has been representing Adam Saks since 2013.
