Born in Svalöv, Sweden 1965 I Lives and works in Stockholm, Sweden.
Maria Miesenberger’s work is as captivating and prolific as it is evasive. Miesenberger’s style prevents the observer from fully deciphering her work, which is always just beyond the viewer’s interpretive reach. This trait can be said to be typical of her art, which is playful yet strikingly serious. Audacity and the joyous experiment are showcased both in her cross-genre practice and her choice of materials. She fears neither vinyl nor cloth, bronze, aluminium, steel, or glass. Just as the material choices may signal deep seriousness, this trait is eminently present in the content of the work – in her photography as well as in her sculpture. They address topics such as vulnerability and strength; relationships between the individual and the collective; independent and gender-related hierarchies.
