Galerie Forsblom is pleased to participate in CHART 2017 with works by Toni R. Toivonen. The abstract images etched on Toivonen’s golden-hued brass plates reveal vaguely discernible imprints of animals. Inscribed on the surface of the oxidized brass through the process of decomposition, Toivonen captures a powerful sense of lingering presence. Like the vanitas, a motif that has recurred in art history for centuries, his work is reminder of life’s transience.
Toni R. Toivonen (b. 1987) has graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Helsinki in 2016. His work can be found in numerous renowned public collections such as the Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art, the Saastamoinen Foundation, and the Sara Hildén Art Museum.
