Galerie Forsblom is excited to announce participation in Untitled Art 2024.
The gallery is proud to show works by established Nordic and international artists such as Stephan Balkenhol, Stig Baumgartner, Anna Fasshauer, Jacob Hashimoto, Tapani Kokko, Jenni Hiltunen, Heikki Marila, Jason Martin, Gerold Miller, Eeva Peura, Marjatta Tapiola, Toni R. Toivonen and Jannis Varelas.
Three vibrant aluminum sculptures by Anna Fasshauer warmly greet visitors to Galerie Forsblom’s booth. The German artist’s striking works initially appear abstract but soon evoke familiar imagery—childhood games like pickup sticks or everyday objects such as drinking straws. With their playful colors and oversized depictions of ordinary items, the sculptures resonate strongly with the traditions of Pop Art, particularly recalling the works of Claes Oldenburg (1929–2009). While rooted in art history, Fasshauer’s sculptures also engage directly with contemporary themes.
Jacob Hashimoto’s latest works seamlessly blend painting and sculpture, layering imagery into a seemingly infinite flow of visual narratives. In contrast, Jason Martin’s bold, sweeping brushstrokes in oil highlight the medium’s dynamic energy, inviting viewers to become part of the artwork’s reality. Stephan Balkenhol’s minimalist, archaic human figures—often paired with animals—stand monumentally on pedestals, commanding a quiet presence. Gerold Miller’s minimalist, geometric sculptures investigate the intersections of space, form, and perception, merging the viewer and the artwork into a cohesive artistic experience. Jannis Varelas unveils the surprising side of banal elements in everyday life. Playfully fusing abstraction and realistic representation.
Jenni Hiltunen’s vividly colorful paintings delve into humanity through the lens of femininity, while Stig Baumgartner’s works juxtapose precise geometric structures with expressive painterly gestures, emphasizing the ephemeral and spontaneous nature of the painting process.
Heikki Marila’s paintings mesmerize with their rich art historical layers and monumental themes. Eeva Peura's paintings are an amalgam of found images, imagined memories, and a contrary mix of painting styles. Peura is intrigued by how reality and fantasy become jumbled in our minds, and this fusion lends her paintings their fierce intensity. Toni R. Toivonen’s works, shaped by the chemical processes of decaying animals, offer a striking exploration of the boundary between nature and art. Tapani Kokko’s sculptures dazzle with their decorative brilliance and an astonishing wealth of intricate details, while Marjatta Tapiola’s masterful brushwork sets her paintings ablaze with dynamic energy.
