Günther Förg

Günther Förg was a German abstract artist who produced paintings, sculptures, and photographs whose lifelong fascination was Modernism.
 

Förg's abstract style was influenced by American abstract painting and after his early monochromatic paintings, he continued to explore modernist themes from postmodern perspectives. He was known for his use of color which created space and form, opening up new insights and perspectives in his painting. Later works bear resemblance to the watercolors by Paul Klee, the color fields of Mark Rothko.
 

His works can be seen in collections of the Hamburger Bahnhof in Berlin, the Kunstmuseum Bonn, the Museum für Moderne Kunst in Frankfurt am Main, and the Museum of Modern Art in New York, among others.
