Pesonen’s paintings explore the relationship between subject and background, often transforming familiar objects into abstract shapes or linear configurations. Her work alternates between representation and abstraction, blending static forms with dynamic lines and balancing spontaneity with control. Central to her practice is the question of where the subject resides: in the object itself or within the drawn textures. Even when objects are recognizable, Pesonen portrays them as interpretations, using the language of painting or drawing. Sometimes, her subjects take on anthropomorphic qualities, momentarily emerging from the background before fading away.
