Charles Sandison's installation The Nature of Light illuminates the Sara Hildénin taidemuseo - Sara Hildén Art Museum and its sculpture park with a network of computers and projectors. Each light represents one of Finland's 5,495 million inhabitants, shining for approximately 130 seconds, equivalent to human life in fast forward. Sandison has programmed the computers to follow the estimation of Finland's future population. The light sources live and die like tiny organisms with their individual genetic rules. Due to minor changes in the arbitrary genetic coding, the future light generations will follow slightly different behavior patterns.
The artwork is on view until January 8, 2018.
