Hannu Väisänen
Lemminkäinen's heart
June 7– August 27, 2023

Hannu Väisänen returns to the world of Kalevala at Lauko Manor.
Lemminkäinen's character has fascinated Väisänen for five decades. The exhibition found its final inspiration in Elias Lönnrot's Laukko, where the new Kalevala was completed and dated in 1849. Väisänen illustrated the 150th-anniversary edition of the same epic in 1999.

Laukko's exhibition presents, for the first time on a large scale, Väisänen's works painted on a photo canvas. The photo paintings, which draw from the tradition of spells and natural mysticism, open up a unique view of the long tradition of Kaleva art. In addition, as a special surprise moment of the exhibition, the artist presents his first Kalevala-themed art rug.
