Riiko Sakkinen’s exhibition PRESIDENTTIPELI (Presidetial Games) opened on December 1 at the Hyvinkää Art Museum / Hyvinkään taidemuseo. To mark Finland’s centennial celebrations, Sakkinen has painted portraits of all 12 Presidents of the Republic of Finland on the white walls of the museum.
Sakkinen’s provocative paintings and object installations sound a war cry against capitalism. The artist is known to ironize global commercialism by using its own mechanisms: advertisements and propaganda posters are saturated by ideology. His images are populated by food industry mascots and cartoon heroes, seemingly gleeful characters he endows with grotesque features.
The exhibition continues through February 18, 2018.
