Sami Lukkarinen & Roope Mokka: Unpublished
Instituto Iberoamericano de Finlandia in Madrid
February 21–March 10, 2023
Sami Lukkarinen's and Roope Mokka's exhibition, Unpublished at the Gallery of El Instituto Iberoamericano de Finlandia in Madrid, will showcase a collection of images generated by an AI trained with 2260 unpublished self-portraits –selfies – that volunteers have curated and donated for the project. Images are presented as paintings, prints, animations, and interactive media art. The Unpublished project delves into the uncharted side of humanity, exploring the unseen aspects of the human condition through the lens of self-representation. The images generated by the neural network are not just a visual representation of the data of the donated selfies but intent to reach a more metaphysical interpretation of the human condition in the 21st century; the neural network transcends individuals quite literally. Therefore, the images are not meant to be seen as realistic or accurate representations of the people but rather reflect the underlying thoughts and feelings we typically keep hidden, as well as the way AI sees us as humans.
During the exhibition is held two conversations about Living with Intelligent Machines:
