SAMI LUKKARINEN
Group exhibition: Masks
Serlachius Manor, Mänttä
Changing Identities from Antiquity to Contemporary Art explores the meanings of wearing a mask as part of human history. Since prehistoric times, man has needed to hide his identity or change it completely temporarily. The pixelated portraits painted by Sami Lukkarinen with a palette knife are based on portraits produced by artificial intelligence. The people shown in the pictures with their mistakes do not depict any real person, but on the other hand, artificial intelligence cannot learn to create characters without pictures of real people. Paradoxically, people are present, but they are not.
